Judi Dench fearfully slammed the makers of The Crown’

Hollywood legend Judi Dench is not a fan of ‘The Crown’, a Netflix series on the British Royal Family. In an open letter, she called the show’s portrayal of the royals cruelly unfair. No one is a bigger believer in artistic freedom than Dench, but this cannot go unquestion.

Judi Dench said, “the closer the play ‘The Crown’ draws to our contemporary times, the more freely it appears eager to violate the lines between historical authenticity and vulgar sensationalism.”

Queen Elizabeth in ‘Shakespeare in Love’ and Queen Victoria in ‘Mrs. Brown’ has written about her concerns. In her opinion, “The Crown” is widely recognizable as the dazzling work of fiction that it is. She has worried that a lot of people, especially in other countries, are going to adopt its interpretation of history as gospel.

Dench elaborated, the new series supposedly contains some hurtful recommendations. King Charles plotted for his mother to abdicate or once suggested his mother’s parenting was so deficient. It’s horrible to the people involved and harmful to the institution they stand for.”

In response, Netflix issued a statement in which it flatly refused to include the disclaimer. It has always advertised ‘The Crown’ as a drama, and they are positive that their viewers know it’s fiction loosely inspired by real events.
