Sony and Honda combine to make Electric Cars

Sony Honda Mobility (SHM) now fully does form. The first plans for a joint venture (JV) became have said 2022.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) did sign in March says that two Japanese companies Sony and Honda will work together to make and sell “large value battery electric cars” (BEVs).

Yasuhide Mizuno from Honda and Izumi Kawanishi from Toyota is the joint venture’s representative directors. They made the official announcement of the company’s formation (from Sony).

SHM has said that it will start taking pre-orders for its first product before the end of 2025. Customers in the United States will start getting the product in 2026. The document goes on to say that the first product is then did make at a Honda plant in the U.S., and deliveries will start in Japan in the second half of 2026.

The JV’s idea for a luxury electric car will get Level 3 self-driving and Level 2+ driver assistance, so it can be used on busy city streets. It will also be willing to use cloud services and have a more up-to-date way for people and machines to talk to each other.

SHM’s lineup includes both sedans and crossovers. Sony says that each of the two electric cars will get two electric motors that can send 536 horsepower to the wheels. On the other hand, it didn’t say anything about the car’s price, features, electric range, or battery.

Sony just said that the game will come out in Spring 2022, but we don’t know when it will come out just yet.
