Govt set to create National Information Technology Board (NITB)

President Dr. Arif Alvi signed the National Information Technology Board (NITB) Bill into law. This shows that the federal govt wants to create the NITB.

Officials from the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (MoITT) say that the formation of the board depends on the nomination of two members. The chief executive officer (CEO) and also a private member.

The Act says that the Board must include nine members, and eight of them, including the CEO, are always ex-officio members. The ninth member is a private member. Dr. Sohail Munir is first confirmed as the new CEO of NITB on August 4. Also, about a week and a half ago, the MoITT sent an offer letter to Sohail Munir. But we haven’t heard back from him yet.

MoITT officials say that Dr. Sohail Munir will tell the ministry of his final choice in the next few days. He has two weeks to respond to the offer letter. When the activity is complete and the new CEO is always selected, the federal government will let the board know.

The National Information Technology Board (NITB) Act says that the Federal Minister of Industry, Science. Technology (MoITT) is the Chairman of the Board and the Chief Executive Officer of the NITB will act as Secretary of the Board. The Federal Secretary MoITT, the Federal Secretary of the division in charge of science and technology, and also the Member IT. The DG (Technical) of the ISI, and the Secretary of the National Institute of Standards. Technology will all become members of the Board by right.

The NITB Act says that the Board is in charge of all of the NITB’s resources and operations. The Board has the power to sign contracts, agreements, and also memorandums of understanding. As well as to make rules about how it can use its powers and carry out its duties. People sometimes buy, rent, mortgage, sell, give away, or trade any kind of real or personal property or interest.

The board’s job is to help federal agencies, ministries, and other groups set up e-office systems in the most efficient and cost-effective way possible by giving them advice and giving them hands-on help. This organization will do a number of things related to the digital transformation of the federal government. For example, it will do needs assessments, create and implement IT capacity-building programs for federal government employees in all departments and agencies and do a number of other related things.
