Jazz pledges 1 billion rupees for flood relief

Jazz, its digital banking service JazzCash, and its sister company Mobilink Microfinance Bank have given PKR 1 billion to flood relief efforts. This money is going to buy urgently needed emergency supplies and, more importantly, to try setting up critical communications infrastructure.

Over the course of a year, the aid will go to both urgent and longer-term projects. With this first launch, Jazz will work closely with non-governmental organizations. The government gives people in needing things like food, clothes, and medicine.

The flood relief effort also makes it easier for Jazz customers to donate to charities using SMS and JazzCash. Jazz will also make voluntary donations to help people in need across the country.

The CEO of Jazz, Aamir Ibrahim, said, “During this extraordinary time, our thoughts and prayers are with the flood victims. We are also working to ensure that people can find ways to help with relief efforts and that our fellow citizens get access to emergency supplies.

He also said, “It is our duty to help Pakistan when it is in trouble. We will do everything we can to save the lives of those who are destroying.

Since communication is so important during a crisis. A lot of help will go toward keeping 911 and other hotlines free or at least very cheap to call. Sign-ups for JazzCash mobile wallets are accelerated so support is sometimes delivered fast and directly to flood victims.

The recent flood in Pakistan is just the latest disaster that jazz has helped Pakistan overcome in the past 27 years.
