Every new user of TikTok has to make a profile and choose a name. But after using TikTok for a while, you may want to change one or both of these settings. Even if you didn’t realize it at the time, you may use your true name. Or maybe you’ve changed your mind about the name you had in mind when you started writing. You might want a new name because you’re anxious about the one you have now.
Either your username or your profile name can be changed in a simple way. (In TikTok, the @ symbol means that the username comes first.)
- Click the “About” tab in your profile (by tapping the Profile icon in the lower-right corner).
- Click the Edit profile button to make changes to your account.
- Choose either Name (to change the name of your profile) or Username.
- Type in your new name here. (Don’t forget that your username can’t be the same as anyone else’s.)
There are a few more things you should know before you change your username. You can only change your username once every 30 days, so choose something you’re happy with at least temporarily. If you change your name, you will also need to change your personal TikTok URL. As a result, you won’t be able to watch your movies at the old URL. If the person who has a verified account changes their username, also they lose their verified status.
