TikTok Music might rival Spotify and Apple

Since TikTok is all about music, it wouldn’t be strange for the company to start its own music streaming service. Patent applications seen by Insider show that TikTok may be working on it.

ByteDance, the company that owns TikTok, trademarked the name “TikTok Music” in May. In the application, it says that you can buy music, share music, and also download music. There would be a way to make a playlist and the ability to live stream music and video. ByteDance trademarked “TikTok Music” back in November.

ByteDance lets you stream music. B-Dance will give Resso to India, Brazil, and also Indonesia in 2020. Resso is similar to “TikTok Music” in that it lets users make playlists, share songs on social media, and talk to other users in the app’s community.

ByteDance sends people who use TikTok to Resso. A report from The Information says that users in Brazil can now use the TikTok app to get the full version of a song on Resso. This is good for the ecosystem of ByteDance.

In November 2021, there were about 40 million monthly users in India, Brazil, and also Indonesia. This number is expected to grow. Between January 2021 and January 2022, the number of monthly active users of Resso in India grew by 304 percent, while Spotify’s growth in the same time period was only 38 percent.

No one knows yet if ByteDance will use Resso or something else to make a music streaming app. A music streaming service with ties to TikTok might force businesses to change how they do business, just like TikTok did.
