3G/4G Spectrum Auction to Raise $170 Million

The government hopes to raise $170 million from the auction of more 3G/4G airwaves (40 billion Indian Rupees).

There is a new auction advisory committee, according to officials from MoITT (Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications). In the coming days, Minister of Finance Miftah Ismail may lead the meeting.-

The Auction Advisory Committee will look at the NGMS recommendations from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), as well as the market assessment study, the demand and supply of spectrum, and any other important information. Among its duties will be to approve the issuance of spectrum policy guidelines and to supervise the auction process in general.

The Federal Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunication, the Federal Minister of Economic Affairs, Also Federal Minister of Power. The Federal Minister of Commerce, Secretary of the Finance Division, the Secretary of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication. Secretary of the Ministry of Law and Justice, and Chairman of the Public Telecommunications Authority all serve on the committee.

Sources say that Telenor wants to buy spectrum with a frequency of 5 MHz. This is in line with what other reports say.The PTA has also inquired about the needs of other telecom businesses for the spectrum. The PTA will deliver a report to the Auction Advisory Committee at the next meeting.

New 3G/4G spectrum auction are expected to raise roughly $170 million, or Rs.40 billion in income.
