Amber Heard seeks mistrial in Johnny Depp defamation case

Depp and Heard’s legal battles continue. Amber Heard’s legal team said a wrong juror sat on Johnny Depp’s defamation case against his ex-wife.

ET has legal docs identifying a legal issue with Amber Heard. Heard’s side claimed a 52-year-old with the same last name and address showed up instead of a 77-year-old.

The 52-year-old was chosen for the six-week experiment. The 52-year-old Aquaman 2 actress wasn’t summoned for jury duty on April 11. Amber Heard’s team demanded a mistrial.

The paper states that Juror No. 15 was not summoned for jury service on April 11, 2022. “A mistrial and another trial should be announced,” When these safeguards are evaded or ignored, as in this instance, jury trials and due process are undermined.

Amber Heard’s attorneys said “had a right to rely on Virginia Code’s protection that jurors were summoned. Juror No. 15 was a different person. Ms. Heard lacked due process.”

Amber Heard’s attorney asked the judge to dismiss Johnny Depp’s defamation trial decision, saying the facts didn’t support it and one juror wasn’t properly vetted.

Johnny Depp was awarded $15 million in damages on June 1. Punitive damages were capped at $350,000.

Amber Heard received $2 million in economic damages, but no punitive damages. The jurors disputed with Depp’s lawyers that Heard’s claims were a “hoax.”
