Netflix has been confirmed a cheaper version with ads for a while but until now. It was just a rumor. This is especially true when you consider Reed Hastings. The CEO of Netflix has said that they don’t plan to put ads on the platform.
But Netflix Co-CEO Ted Srandos just confirmed that the streaming company is working on a cheaper version or cheaper subscription plan that will include ads. He says that the fact that Netflix doesn’t have commercials is a lost business chance.
People who say things like, “Hey, Netflix is too expensive for me, and I don’t mind ads,” are not counted as possible customers besides our company because we don’t think they are willing to purchase a product. This is a very big mistake on our part, and we’re sorry. People who say things like, “Hey, I want a cheaper price and I’ll watch ads,” will be the target audience for the ad-supported tier in the future. Also, he said that Netflix and possible ad-sales partners are already talking about the next level of service.
There are no plans for Netflix to put ads in every show. Which is good news for people who pay for the service. This means that you can keep using Netflix the way it is now, without having to deal with ads. With the new way to subscribe to content, customers will only see ads if they choose the option that costs the least.
Even though Netflix hasn’t given a specific date for when the new tier will be available. We think it will be before the end of the year.
