Imran Khan long march delayed till after Punjab by-elections: Pervez Elahi

According to a close associate Pervez Elahi, the former prime minister Imran Khan intentions to long march to the capital of Islamabad have been postponed until after July 20.

Pervez Elahi, a senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q), who has sided with Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), stated in an interview with BBC Urdu that the former prime minister Imran Khan will be going on an election stump in Punjab the following month and will not march to the federal capital to protest against the government any time soon. Elahi is a member of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q).

According to Elahi, who was interviewed by BBC Urdu, Imran Khan “would do the politics of dharna (sit-ins) after the elections.”

The Election Commission of Pakistan removed 25 members of the PTI from their seats in the Punjab Assembly at the end of the previous month for voting against party lines during an election for the position of chief minister in the province. By-elections will now be placed on 20 out of 25 seats in July, and it is anticipated that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and the incumbent Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N)  would engage in a fierce competition.
