Foreign Minister (FM) Bilawal Bhutto has gone into self-imposed isolation following the discovery that his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock tested positive for the coronavirus while she was visiting Pakistan.
It has been reported that the Minister of Foreign Affairs has withdrawn into seclusion and will carry out his official responsibilities from his home. FM Bilawal Bhutto is planning to have himself tested for Covid-19.
It was reported earlier in the day that German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock would be cutting short her visit to Pakistan since she had tested positive for the coronavirus during her stay there.
After realising that she had lost her sense of taste while eating lunch, Baerbock went to get tested, as stated in a statement that was released by her ministry. In addition, the results of a quick antigen test that she had performed the previous morning came back negative.
After having a meeting earlier on Tuesday in Islamabad with her Pakistani counterpart, Baerbock decided to cancel all of the remaining days of her trip, which also included trips to Greece and Turkey, according to the ministry. It is not known when exactly she will go back to Germany at this time.
A ministry spokesperson named Christofer Burger was quoted as claiming by a German news agency that a member of Baerbock’s family had tested positive on Saturday. However, the minister had little contact with that individual and has tested herself repeatedly since then.
