Ishaq Dar, former Finance Minister of Pakistan and leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has been issued a passport in Islamabad.
According to sources with knowledge of the situation, Dar was issued a passport in Islamabad, and he would receive it in London shortly after. It was reported that “the officials had conveyed to him on the issuing of a passport to him.”
Dar has been out of Pakistan for four years and is wanted in Pakistan in connection with a number of cases.
Previously, Ishaq Dar stated that he intends to travel to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah once he receives his passport.
When asked about his plans for the future, Ishaq Dar said he has not yet got his passport, but he intends to travel to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah as soon as he does. He was speaking to reporters in London alongside PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira.
In response to an inquiry concerning tax filings, Ishaq Dar stated that he has been placed under arrest for failure to file tax returns. He went on to say that he had never been late with his tax returns and that this was on record.
This past week, Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif directed that a diplomatic passport be issued to former Prime Minister (former PM) Nawaz Sharif by the Interior Ministry.
Shehbaz Sharif was given a briefing by diplomatic authorities shortly after taking over as Prime Minister of Pakistan, according to reports. The meeting was held in order to discuss the issuing of a passport to the PML- N’s leader. As directed by the Pakistani government, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar were issued diplomatic passports by the Pakistani mission in the United Kingdom.
However, only Nawaz Sharif can be dispensed a diplomatic passport, and not Ishaq Dar, who was given a conventional Pakistani passport by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as a result of the diplomatic staff’s suggestion.
