According to sources, new Marvel film ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness‘ will not release in Saudi Arabia. The movie has just failed to get a distribution certificate and has not officially banned. However, if that changes, it may become available for purchase.
This comes in the aftermath of Marvel’s ‘The Eternals’ banned from Saudi Arabia. It was due to its depiction of a same-gender couple in love and the introduction of the MCU’s first homosexual superhero.
In the Gulf, it is common for films containing LGBTQ content to rejected by the censors. ‘Doctor Strange 2’ has America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), who is homosexual in the Marvel comics and appears in the film.
Doctor Strange 2 has set to distributed across the Saudi Arabia as part of the day-and-date theatrical launch on May 5. It coincided with the release of the first film. According to reports, the sequel has anticipated to published in the United Arab Emirates. However, the release of ‘Doctor Strange 2’ in Kuwait and Qatar is still up in the air.
