Earlier, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz-led coalition government resolved to discontinue the use of the Exit Control List (ECL) when it was no longer essential.

The committee on the Exit Control List (ECL), which was constituted during the first cabinet meeting, which was presided over by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday, has suggested that the rules be modified.

People would only be placed in the ECL if it was absolutely required, according to the new criteria. The committee had also advised that the time frame for filing petitions to have the names of those listed on the ECL removed be fixed.
