Copyright case against Justin Bieber, Dan+Shay and ‘10,000 Hours’

Justin Bieber and Dan + Shay are being sued for copyright infringement over their 2019 Grammy-winning song 10,000 Hours, according to People.

Music labels International Manufacturing Concepts, Melomega Music and Sound Gems sued Bieber, Dan Syers and Shay Mooney on Thursday, according to documents obtained by the site.

the chorus, verse, and hook from The First Time Baby Is a Holiday by Palmer Rakes and Frank Fioravanti, written in 1983.

Also, Rakes and Fioravanti’s song came out in 2014, five years before Bieber and Dan + Shay’s 10,000 Hours, which has “unmistakable similarities”.

The corporations suing the pop and country musicians claim ownership of the tune and seek damages, legal fees, and statutory damages.
