During Amber Heard’s $100 million defamation trial, a disturbing text exchange between Johnny Depp and Paul Bettany was read aloud.
Heard’s lawyer Benjamin Rottenborn cross-examined Depp by reading messages Depp sent Bettany on June 11, 2013.
“Let’s burn Amber!!!” said one. “You see?” Rottenborn asked Depp. “I see,” Depp said.
“You didn’t stop. ‘Let’s drown her before we burn her!!!’ Is that correct? “Yes,” Depp said.
“I’d want to apologize to the court and the jury for some of the language I’m about to use,” Rottenborn said before reading Depp’s next text to Bettany.
“I shall (expletive) her charred body afterward.” Is that right, Rottenborn? ‘You did,’ Depp responded.
“You wrote it about your future wife,” Rottenborn said, to which Depp answered. “Yes.”
