National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri on Thursday accepted the resignations of 123 members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) National Assembly who had submitted their resignations.
Qasim Suri, the acting speaker of the National Assembly, stated in a tweet that he had received the resignations and that he had accepted them in accordance with the rules and regulations of the assembly.
In the meantime, Secretary NA issued a notification confirming that the resignations had been accepted.
He stated in an order signed by him that he had received the resignations of 125 PTI MNAs on April 11, according to the order. According to him, after going over the resignations, all of them, except those from Prince Muhammad Nawaz Allai (NA-12) and Jawwad Hussain (NA-47), were given voluntarily and with full knowledge of the circumstances.
So, in accordance with Rule 43 of the National Assembly’s Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in 2007, I accept these 123 resignations and order that they are published in the Gazette, he explained.
Earlier this month, former prime minister Imran Khan and several other PTI legislators resigned from their positions in the National Assembly ahead of the election for House Speaker.
At the party’s parliamentary meeting on April 11, which was presided over by Imran Khan, the decision to step down from the assembly was made. The party has made the decision to concentrate its efforts on public agitation against the incoming federal administration.
