Following the ousting of Prime Minister Imran Khan by a no-confidence vote, Governor Punjab Omar Sarfraz Cheema is expected to step down from his position.
According to people with knowledge of the situation, the governor of Punjab will resign from his position as soon as a new prime minister takes the oath of office.
The Governor of Punjab, through a spokesperson, refuted allegations that he was stepping down from his position, stating that he had left for Islamabad to attend a meeting of the PTI core committee and that a final decision would be made after consultation with the party’s leadership.
Following the departure of Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar from his position as Punjab Governor, Omar Sarfraz Cheema took the oath of office on April 3.
The oath was administered to him during a simple but solemn ceremony at the Governor’s House in Lahore, which was presided over by Lahore High Court Chief Justice Muhammad Amir Bhatti.
Former Punjab chief minister Usman Buzdar, the Inspector General of Punjab, the chief secretary, Raja Yasir, and Humayun Saeed were among those who attended the ceremony.
Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhry Sarwar was ousted from his position after he was accused of influencing members of the Aleem Khan group to vote in favor of PML-N nominee Hamza Shahbaz.
