No-confidence session against PM Imran Khan postponed till 12:30p.m

The National Assembly session to vote on the no-trust motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan in line with the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan was postponed till 12:30 pm.

The lower house of parliament convened at 10:30 a.m. under the chairmanship of NA Speaker Asad Qaiser, who presided over the session.

Shehbaz Sharif, leader of the Pakistani opposition in the National Assembly, was given permission to make his statement after the Holy Quran and the national anthem were recited by the Speaker of the National Assembly.

Shehbaz Sharif, the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, praised Thursday’s decision by the Supreme Court to overturn the deputy speaker’s decision as a “historic day in the history of the country” while speaking on the floor of the National Assembly.

“The Supreme Court’s decision has made Pakistan’s future bright,” he remarked, urging the speaker to conduct the session in accordance with the highest court’s order because its instructions were clear.

According to Shehbaz, Asad Qaiser informed him that he would conduct the processes in accordance with the law and the Constitution of Pakistan.

After stopping the opposition politician, the speaker added, “The foreign conspiracy against the PM Imran-led PTI government should also be examined in today’s National Assembly session.”

This caused Shehbaz Sharif, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), to inform the speaker that he would be in violation of the court’s directions if he continued to delay voting on the no-trust resolution.

A vote on a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan is also scheduled for today. No-trust motion is the fourth item on the six-point agenda, and it is the most contentious.

The unified opposition requires the backing of at least 172 members of parliament from a total of 342 members in order to remove the premier through a no-trust motion.
