During a birthday party at a St. Louis apartment, two young cousins died in what family members called a “freak accident.”
Paris Harvey and Kuaron Harvey were slain while livestreaming on Instagram from their apartment’s toilet at 2:00 a.m.
The cousins were at a family celebration to celebrate March birthdays. The shooting was initially classified as a “murder-suicide” by police.
“We express our deepest condolences to the families of Paris Harvey, 12, and Kuaron Harvey, 14,” the St. Louis Police Department posted on Facebook.
Paris’ mother, Shanise Harvey, 35, said she had no idea where the rifle came from.
Harvey told NBC station KSDK that she was playing with the weapon when it accidentally went off and hit him. “As soon as she raised it up by the barrel, it went off again… This is not a suicide attempt. It was just by happenstance.”
Susan Dyson, the cousins’ grandmother, said she’d seen the Instagram Live video.
“They weren’t arguing or anything like that. Were they playing with a loaded gun? “Dyson said. “Of course they shouldn’t have. It just went off. A mishap set it off.”
Paris, one of nine children, liked getting her hair and nails done and had a great voice, family relatives added. They called Kuaron a silly eighth student who could do backflips.
