Quyum Miah accused of murder, burglary, and two charges of fraud

Quyum Miah, 40, was charged with her murder, burglary and two charges of fraud by false representation.

A mother-of-two was found stabbed to death in her Bethnal Green house while her children were at school.

She was found dead at 4.06pm on Thursday in Globe Road, N.E. London, after school employees got concerned when she did not pick up her children.

Quyum Miah, a resident of Homerton’s High Street, spoke only to confirm his identity, including his date of birth and residence. He was remanded in custody and ordered to appear in court on Wednesday.

‘You are coming here on four issues, one of which is the murder of Yasmin Begum,’ said Magistrate George Malouf. On to the Old Bailey.

‘You will appear at the Old Bailey on March 30th for the murder charge and hearing. You’ll be detained till then.”

Ms Begum died on the scene after being stabbed by police and paramedics. A post-mortem on Saturday revealed several sharp force injuries as the cause of death.

Her family has been notified and is being helped. Miah was arrested on Sunday.

Ms Begum was expected to pick up her children at Bangabandhu Primary School on Thursday afternoon.

When the mom failed to pick up her children, teachers alerted the cops, who proceeded to her home on Globe Road.

Ms Begum was recovered inside the house, however she was pronounced dead due to several stab wounds.

‘My sympathies are with Yasmin’s family and friends at this terribly terrible time,’ said DCI Laurence Smith.

‘I want to reassure them that we are working 24/7 to get them answers. ‘It is tragic that another woman has died. We will do all possible to ensure that all women and girls are protected at all times, day or night, in public or at home.

‘The Met’s first priority is to end violence against women. Officers, including forensic experts, remain on scene.

‘We will continue to undertake door-to-door checks and the locals will see more police.’ We are seeking for any witnesses or information.

Neighbours reported one youngster was in reception and the other in Year 5. A friend called Ms Begum vivacious and a “wonderful mother.”

‘I’ve never seen a mother like that. I have no doubt that she is a fantastic mother. She’s investing in them by teaching them privately online.’

The acquaintance, stunned by the news, described the mother as’very outgoing and impulsive’, willing to ‘do everything’ and ‘kind’.

The officers and two instructors bashed their way through the door, so I know she was due to pick up her children. I’ve been here for ten years. We’ve never had a problem with her in the past.

Her ex-partner visited occasionally, I know. ‘We’re stunned since that doesn’t happen here.’

Two school instructors knocked on the door but got no response, said a father of four with two children in the same class. They were waiting for a reply.

‘Later, officers and teachers came to break down the door. I’m saddened by what happened. ‘My classmates’ kids are worried about their peers.
