Pakistani scientist Prof. Dr. M Iqbal Choudhary received a friendship award from China for his outstanding contribution to the economic and social development of Guangxi, an autonomous region in southern China bordering Vietnam.
The decision to award Prof. Iqbal the Golden Silk Ball Friendship Award in 2020 was made by the Guangxi Juan People’s Government on the recommendation of Guangxi Normal University.
Dr. Originally from Pakistan, Iqbal is a world-renowned medicinal chemist who has published 1,175 scientific articles on organic and bioorganic chemistry in international journals, as well as 76 books and 40 book chapters published by major American and European media.
In addition, his work has been cited 27,407 times by researchers worldwide, and his h-index is 70. He has also received 40 patents in the US to date.
The “Friendship Award” he will receive is China’s highest honor for “foreign experts who have made tremendous contributions to the country’s economic and social progress.”
The prizes include a medal and a bonus of 100,000 RMB which amounts to over 15,000 USD. The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in China in March 2021.
Apart from all the achievements above, there are around 94 national and international scientists at Dr. Choudhary received his PhD and various awards including Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Sitara-e-Imtiaz and Tamgha-e-Imtiaz from various governments in Pakistan.
He has been elected as a Member of world-renowned academies including the Academy of Sciences for Developing Countries, the Islamic World Academy of Sciences, the Pakistan Academy of Sciences, the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Chemical Society of Pakistan.
He was also awarded the Khwarizmi International Award by the President of Iran, the Comstech Prize in Chemistry with the ECO Education Award by the President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
