Islamabad Capital Territory reject PDM request for holding a sit-in

According to reports, the administration of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) has turned down the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) request to stage a sit-in in the federal capital.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) senator Kamran Murtaza has filed an application with the capital authorities asking permission to hold the sit-in in the federal capital of Islamabad.

The capital administration denied the JUI-F’s proposal to stage a PDM sit-in and instead granted permission to the opposition coalition to stage power shows between May 25 and May 27.

A power display in Islamabad on March 28 has been requested by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), which has filed an application with the capital administration to obtain permission.

PML-N leader Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has filed an application with the administration of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

It was revealed yesterday that the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the opposition Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) have received no-objection certificates (NOCs) from the local administration to hold power displays on March 25 and 27 at various locations throughout the federal capital.

The ruling party had been allowed permission to stage its power display in Islamabad’s Parade Ground, but the JUI-F had been granted permission to hold its public gathering at the H-9 plot on the condition that it adheres to severe rules and regulations.

According to the terms and circumstances established by the local administration, political parties holding power shows in Islamabad are prohibited from interfering with or disrupting the fundamental rights of citizens and residents of surrounding areas.

Participants in public meetings would not be permitted to obstruct any roadways, including the Srinagar Highway, Islamabad Highway/Expressway, and Murree Road, which are all major arterial roads in the region.
