Ashraf Sultan, a papad vendor from Pattoki, was laid to rest today in his ancestral village of Chak Jaguwala, where he had been killed at a wedding hall by the guests.
Nobody from the police department showed up for the funeral prayer of the slain daily wager. Ashraf alias Sultan used to make money by selling fried papad at wedding receptions and other social gatherings.
Police Superintendent Investigation Kamran Asghar told reporters that the post-mortem report did not reveal any major injuries on his body and that samples had been sent to a laboratory for testing, which was being conducted to determine the reason for his death.
Angry that police were not working with them on the investigation into the gruesome murder, the dead laborer’s family protested to the authorities. Moreover, the stated marriage venue was also in the midst of organizing another wedding ceremony today, sources added.
According to the SP Investigation, a murder case against Ashraf Sultan was promptly filed, and police arrested more than 12 people in connection with his death. He went on to say that the arrested individuals were being interrogated and that those responsible would be brought to justice.
According to the police officer, the forensic analysis will serve as a basis for moving on with the investigation.
