Prime Minister Imran Khan was barred from attending an election-related public meeting in Mansehra on Monday, according to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
As stated in the statement, the Prime Minister’s trip to Manshera is slated for March 25. However, the ECP has barred the Prime Minister from attending the rally because doing so would be a violation of his code of conduct as Prime Minister.
Another point raised in the ECP statement is that the District Monitoring Officer has barred the Prime Minister from attending the gathering due to a conflict with his schedule.
To avoid a repeat of this situation, the Executive Council of Pakistan has requested that the Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa seek cancellation of the Prime Minister’s visit to Mansehra between now and then.
It is against the rules of behaviour for persons in positions of authority to take part in demonstrations and public meetings, which is why they are not permitted.
