Several PTI MNAs have openly criticised Prime Minister Imran Khan, prompting Federal Planning Minister Asad Umar to send show-cause orders to those who have supposedly allied with the opposition.
The minister made the announcement with Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry.
Umar stated that the party was already hard at work on the notification. As Umar explained, “I will sign the show-cause notes today.” He stated that legislators will be able to analyse their decision in the response.
Before Umar, Foreign Minister Qureshi encouraged the dissident MPs to “calmly” reconsider their choice.
“As a buddy and well-wisher,” Qureshi remarked. He said PTI MNAs were “smart and political” and knew the law and Constitution.
“Our people’s grievances can be addressed if they reconsider calmly,” said Qureshi, PTI vice-chairman. He suggested that MPs joining a rival would be politically doomed.
Qureshi had remarked before Umar’s statements that the PTI’s political committee made the choice based on the law, Constitution, and ethics.
He further added that if the MNAs do not follow party line, a presidential reference will be filed against them.
Concerned about the government, several PTI MNAs sought refuge in the Sindh House Islamabad. The legislators reportedly voted in favour of the Opposition’s no-confidence motion.
