Two JUI-F MNAs and Ansarul Islam workers who were arrested during a police operation inside the Parliament Lodges on Friday were released by Islamabad police after nationwide protests by JUI-F workers.
On Thursday evening, Islamabad Police stormed the Parliament Lodges and detained more than a dozen Ansar-ul-Islam workers, a uniformed volunteer unit of the JUI-F that included members of Parliament Maulana Jamaluddin and Salahuddin Ayubi, as well as the JUI-F’s spokesperson Mufti Abdullah.
After posting bail and providing personal guarantees, the police discharged JUI-F MNA Maulana Jamaluddin, Salahuddin Ayubi, and other party workers in the early hours of Friday morning, according to reports.
On the microblogging site Twitter, JUI-F spokesperson Aslam Ghouri confirmed the release of party workers and praised the opposition parties and their workers for their assistance.
In a statement, he expressed gratitude to the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) leadership, adding that “the next line of action will be decided after consultation with the leadership of the PDM.”
The police, on the other hand, has closed off all routes leading to Parliament as part of the JUI-F protest against the detention of party members.
