Following the police action against Ansarul Islam in the Parliament Lodges, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of the JUI-F, summoned all of his party’s workers to Islamabad.
Fazlur Rehman arrived at the Parliament Lodges in order to turn himself in to the authorities. Fazlur Rehman also advised members of the JUI-F to resist the police operations in their own way.
Islamabad police conducted an operation to expel JUI-F Ansarul Islam Force volunteers from Parliament Lodges, which was met with fierce resistance.
On the DIG’s orders, police began emptying the Parliament Lodges of Ansarul Islam volunteers. The operation is still ongoing.
Following the decision by higher authorities to remove the JUI-F volunteers, police officers and a number of NA MPs convened to discuss the situation.
According to Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed, police attempted to resolve the situation through conversation, but they did not adhere to the directions of the authorities.
He added that national security is the number one priority for the federal government. Rasheed asserted that Islamabad has received a terrorist attack threat.
