Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, the leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), has been elected as the Senator for Sindh, filling the position that became empty after the disqualification of PTI candidate Faisal Vawda.
In the 168-member provincial assembly, PPP Nisar Khuhro received 99 votes, with two votes being rejected by the other members.
The PPP has 99 members in the legislature, whereas the opposition parties collectively have 69 members in the legislature.
Several political parties, including the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P), had decided to boycott the poll.
Ali Zaidi, the President of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, made the announcement on Twitter.
It was declared vacant by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) after the commission declared PTI politician Faisal Vawda ineligible to be a member of parliament for the rest of his life and annulled the notification of his election as a member of the Senate.
