Pakistan will not take sides in the UN debate over Ukraine

Pakistan has chosen not to attend the UN General Assembly’s emergency session on the Ukrainian issue.

Pakistan has opted not to take sides in this dispute. “Islamabad backs a peaceful, negotiated solution.”

Prime Minister Imran Khan justified his decision to visit Moscow on the day of the invasion, saying he was only there to discuss bilateral problems.

“If Ukraine doesn’t exist, neither will the UN,” said Ukraine’s UN envoy Sergiy Kyslytsya.

Ambassador Krzysztof Szczerski told the meeting that the Polish government was sheltering thousands of Pakistani civilians and students.

According to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, while Russian strikes primarily target Ukrainian military infrastructure, there are “credible accounts” of non-military sites being severely damaged.

“Enough,” he said. “This rising violence is intolerable. Soldiers must return to their barracks. Leaders must promote peace.
