Lahore Qalandars defeated Multan Sultans to win their first PSL title. The Lahore Qalandars defeated the Multan Sultans by a score of 42 runs to win their first ever Pakistan Super League title.
Head coach Aqib Javed and CEO Rana Aatif met with Prime Minister Imran Khan before the event. The meeting came just days after Lahore Qalandars announced Shaheen as their leader.
Many questioned the Qalandars’ choice of Shaheen as captain as soon as it was announced.
In his meeting with the Qalandars’ leadership, PM Imran Khan praised the squad for entrusting Shaheen with the main duty and predicted the 21-year-old would lead his side to victory.
The PM said picking a youthful squad captain was smart for the franchise. Prime Minister Imran Khan stated that “youth generally has an impact on results” and that “the Lahore Qalandars could win the Pakistan Super League trophy this time [as a result of this decision].”
He has now become the youngest captain to lead a T20 team to a major tournament trophy, surpassing Steve Smith, who led Sydney Sixers to a BBL triumph in 2012 at the age of 22.
