Asif Zardari, the president of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), will meet with Moulana Fazlur Rehman, the head of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), on Monday (tomorrow), in an attempt to speed up the process of removing the present administration led by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Following the meeting, Fazlur Rehman will throw a reception for Asif Zardari at his residence, during which they will discuss issues connected to political developments in the country, according to the meeting’s agenda.
Among the topics to be discussed contact with political groups, including government allies, in an attempt to bring about internal change in the National Assembly, measures required for setting the agenda of an effective anti-government movement, and issues relating to bringing the Pakistan Peoples Party closer to the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).
The meeting took place against the backdrop of another behind-closed-door meeting of opposition leaders to discuss the success of their no-trust movement, which took place yesterday when Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif met with estranged PTI leader Jahangir Tareen.
In a meeting between Shehbaz Sharif and Jahangir Tareen, according to sources within the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) who were privy to the event, the former solicited the latter’s help in the no-trust movement against Prime Minister Imran Khan.
“The meeting lasted several hours, and Shehbaz Sharif even offered to include the leader of the PTI in the upcoming set-up,” they claimed.
