Prince Andrew may lose his another honorary title after sexual assault case

After Prince Andrew resolved the sex abuse lawsuit with Virginia Guiffre, municipal councillors in York want to withdraw his honorary title of ‘freedom of York’. There was no need for a potentially dramatic trial, as the settlement has estimated to over £12 million. However, Andrew has always disputed the accusations against him.

York Liberal Democrats have said that they will put up a resolution to begin the process of stripping Prince Andrew of his honorary title. They will propose a motion to begin the process of revoking Prince Andrew’s Honorary Freedom and calling him to resign the #DukeOfYork title.

An executive member of York’s council said, “We are attempting to sever Prince Andrew’s relations with our magnificent city. It includes the removal of his honorary freedom. He has stripped of his military positions and royal patronages by the Queen.”

It is crucial to remember York’s unique relationship with the monarchy. However, as a council and as a city, we stand with those who have suffered sexual assault. We are working hard to eliminate violence against women and girls in our community.

Because of this, Prince Andrew’s ambassadorial role in our city should not allow to continue. The duke has always vigorously rejected the accusations against him. Whereas, the deal is not an admission of guilt on his behalf.
