Release of upcoming film ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi‘ got into controversy before the announced date. It has directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and starring Alia Bhatt alongwith Ajay Devgn.
Bhansali’s film stars Alia Bhatt as one of the most influential women in Mumbai’s Red Light District Kamathipura in the 1960s. The film’s release date has set for February 25 but is currently in doubt due to a legal dispute.
According to sources, Gangubai’s relatives have filed a petition against the film’s distribution. Director Sanjay Leela and novelist Hussain Zaidi have both charged with defamation over the film’s production and distribution. Moreover, Alia Bhatt has also mentioned among these two others.
In the lawyer’s opinion, portraying a woman as a greedy money-grabber is harmful for a man’s reputation. Every woman’s integrity and dignity are at stake here, not just those of the mother and son. Women don’t want to depicted in a sexually explicit manner.
An attorney for Gangu Bai’s family stated that she was a well-known social worker in the Kamathipura area at the time. Mararji Desai, Jawaharlal Nehru and Atal Bihari Vajpayee also visited her home during the election. She was an activist for women’s rights in the area.
For the past three years, release of ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ has delayed because of a Covid-19. As of right now, the picture will release on the 25th of this month in all of its territories.
