PTI Foreign Funding case: ECP rejects request to hide parts of report

The Election Commission of Pakistan on Tuesday rejected a request to keep hide some portions of the scrutiny committee report in the PTI foreign funding case until further notice.

Anwar Mansoor, a former attorney general of Pakistan, appeared before the election commission on behalf of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

It was announced by the Chief Election Commissioner that the request to keep some portions of the report secret had been denied.

Additionally, the petitioner in the PTI foreign funding case, Akbar S. Babar, appeared before the ECP panel with the assistance of his legal counsel.

“Some portions of the report of the scrutiny committee have not been provided to us,” Babar’s attorney stated.

Anwar Mansoor, a lawyer for the PTI, said he appreciated the ECP’s scrutiny of political parties. “However, the scrutiny of the PTI was conducted first,” he added.

He claimed that the report of the scrutiny committee contained plenty of flaws. According to him, “the source for a number of the figures in the report is unknown.” Furthermore, he asserted that the report contains a number of figures that support his claims.

The ECP also ordered the scrutiny committee established for funding of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to submit its report within 10 days of its formation.

The scrutiny committee has become dysfunctional as a result of the retirement of one of its members, according to the special secretary and the chairman of the committee. In addition, the PPP and PML-N cases are of a similar nature, according to the special secretary.

“The scrutiny committee will be reconstituted,” the CEC stated, and the case was adjourned until February 1st for further hearings to take place.
