Federal Cabinet Decides Not to Impose Lockdown

Although there has been an increase in COVID-19 cases recently, the federal cabinet has decided not to implement lockdown in the country. The cabinet also approved the filing of a disqualification petition against Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif over a guarantee he submitted before the Lahore High Court (LHC) regarding the return of PML-N Leader Nawaz Sharif from London,

During a press conference, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry shared details of the decisions taken by the federal cabinet meeting, which was presided over by Prime Minister Imran Khan. He stated that COVID cases have seen a two-fold increase recently, but that the cabinet has decided against imposing a lockdown.

According to him, people should wear facemasks, maintain social distance, and vaccinate themselves, and the government has determined that there is no need for a lockdown in the country at this time.

Further, during the press conference, Fawad Chaudhry stated that the cabinet has decided to file an application with the Lahore High Court (LHC) against Shehbaz Sharif, who served as a guarantor in the case permitting Nawaz Sharif to receive medical treatment in the United Kingdom.

According to him, it has been 17 months since Nawaz Sharif fraudulently traveled abroad, and has not received any treatment since then. He went on to say that the Punjab government has already rejected Nawaz Sharif’s requests for extension, and that the Pakistan High Commission in London has twice requested the Sharif family to submit the most recent medical reports, but that they have refused to do so on both occasions.

Shehbaz Sharif, he claimed, shared responsibility for the fraud committed by his brother, Nawaz Sharif. The cabinet has asked the attorney general to bring the matter to the attention of the LHC, he added.

“A disqualification petition would be filed against Shehbaz Sharif as a result of his submission of a forged affidavit before the court,” he stated.

Fawad Chaudhry also spoke about a briefing on the Murree disaster that was given to the cabinet, and he stated that the Punjab government has constituted a committee to investigate the incident.

In a statement, he stated that “hundreds of thousands of people were evacuated from Murree within hours” and that both the KP and Punjab governments are monitoring the situation at tourist destinations around the clock.

He stated that it has come to light that authorities should issue a special warning for tourist destinations in order to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
