Gwadar Protest: Balochistan CM Thanks PM Imran’s Assurance on Legitimate Demands

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo on Sunday expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Imran Khan for assuring the Baloch people that their legitimate requests, which had been lodged in a days-long sit-in at the Gwadar port, would be addressed.

Bijenjo stated that the Gwadar movement’s demands are based on fundamental human rights and are reflected in the policies of the current government. He also stated that the provincial government is putting into effect actions to address the demands of the protestors that fall within its constitutional jurisdiction.

In response to the protestors’ demands, he stated that the province government is ensuring the ban of illicit fish trawling, the elimination of needless FCR checkpoints, the return of border trade, and the elimination of the token system.

The Balochistan chief minister announced that all liquor store permits have been suspended, that the Department of Public Health and Environment has been asked to tackle the water concerns in Gwadar, and that monies have been allocated to the necessary ministries in this respect.

CM Bizenjo stated that many of the demands, particularly those regarding power, are under the purview of the federal government and that under PM Imran, all genuine demands will be satisfied. He stated that the federal and provincial governments should work together to build a coordinated system to combat unlawful trawling in the ocean.

“We will be presenting a full report to Prime Minister Imran Khan on the happenings shortly,” he stated.
