Indian army chief Bipin Rawat helicopter crashes

In the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, an Indian army Bipin Rawat helicopter transporting top officials was crashed, according to authorities.

Four persons have been confirmed killed as a result of the tragedy, while three others have been rescued from the scene and sent to a nearby hospital for additional medical attention.

The helicopter flew from Sulur in the Coimbatore area to the Wellington Army Center in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, where it arrived on time.

CDS Bipin Rawat, his wife, a defense aide, security commandos, and an Indian Air Force pilot were among those on board.

According to the Indian Air Force’s Twitter account, an accident involving a Mi-17V5 helicopter with CDS Gen Bipin Rawat on board occurred near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu.

In videos carried on Indian news stations, a blazing wreck could be seen at the accident scene, which was located in a densely forested area close to the college in the Nilgiris district.

According to accounts in the media, the helicopter took off from Sulur Air Force Station on Wednesday afternoon, and that some of the passengers were transferred to hospitals for medical treatment after the crash.

In fact, Rawat hails from a military family with numerous generations of members who have served in the Indian armed forces.

The general, who has four decades of military experience under his belt, has commanded soldiers in Indian-administered Kashmir as well as along the Line of Actual Control, which borders China.

The insurgency on India’s northeastern borders has been reduced as a result of his efforts, and he also oversaw a cross-border counter-insurgency campaign into the neighboring country of Myanmar.

According to the Air Force, an investigation into the accident is currently underway.
