EVM will also Erase Proof of Election Fraud: Shahid Khaqan

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, a veteran leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N), stated on Thursday that electronic voting machines (EVM) will destroy proof of election rigging as well.

While speaking to the media in Karachi, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi stated that “every issue that has been addressed by the administration is based on ill purpose.”

He said that the government had been complicit in election rigging and that it was now attempting to improve the voting system through legislative action. “The only thing that is being discussed is so-called election changes. “The electronic voting machine has failed all across the world,” he declared.

In his opinion, the country’s electoral system was not problematic, but rather the system used to organize elections in the country was controversial, according to the former premier.

Criticizing the government, he also said that instead of passing legislation, they should have issued an ordinance to accomplish their goals.

While in session on November 17, with the support of its allies and a majority vote, the government amended the Elections Act, 2017, to allow for the use of electronic voting machines (EVM) and the right for Pakistanis living overseas to participate in the general elections through internet services.

Hasaan Khawar, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Punjab on Information and Special Initiatives, claimed on Thursday that the electronic voting machines had sent an electric shock to the opposition party.

According to Hasaan Khawar, who said in a tweet that the use of technology made the Pakistan Muslim League-N and the Pakistan Peoples Party uncomfortable because they had always relied on manipulation and match-fixing, “Electronic voting machines would put an end to match-fixing for good.”

According to a spokeswoman for the Punjab government, 75 percent of democratic countries in the globe either employed electronic voting machines statewide or in portions of the country or were in the process of implementing electronic voting machines.
