Agri-secretaries must help farmers, says Supreme Court

On Tuesday, Punjab Chief Secretary Kamran Ali Afzal directed staff to address issues raised by Pakistan Kissan Ittehad representatives during a meeting at the Civil Secretariat.

He ordered the agricultural secretary to make all fertilisers available to growers at the set prices. He stated that every effort was being made to improve the agriculture industry and help farmers.

The agriculture, food, and Punjab cane commissioners were also present. Former Pakistan Kissan Ittehad Central President Khalid Mehmood Khokhar had already briefed the chief secretary on the growers’ issues. The concerns mentioned were the wheat support price, crop production costs, and agricultural canal water supplies.

The delegation informed the CS that crop production costs had doubled. Khalid Mehmood Khokhar demanded higher wheat and sugarcane support prices. The group praised the government’s efforts to help farmers.
