Updates for Google’s Pixel 6 phones will be available for five years

Many of the important updates Google is expected to discuss at Google’s Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro launch on October 19. They were revealed by a store error, which confirmed the majority of the features Google is expected to discuss. For those of us who have kept pace of Android system and security updates over the years. None have been more significant than the one that is now available owing to Google’s new Tensor processor.

According to the marketing pages that we just finished discussing in depth. Google will include 5 years of security updates for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro devices with their purchase. Actually, on one page it states “at least 5 years of updates”. While on another it says “at least five years of updates.”

As with other Pixel phones, the date of support begins “when the product was first made available on the Google Store”. It means that if the phone has released after October 19, the clock will start ticking immediately. Assuming that support for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will be available for 5 years from October or November 2021. But support for the devices could be discontinue around October 2026.

Check At The Pixel Phone Help Page For Updates

If you check at the Pixel Phone Help page for updates, you’ll see that it divides support into two categories. Android version and security, both of which are currently the same length as they were for all previous Pixel smartphones. Because these listings only mention security, it is possible that Google will supply 5 years of security updates while providing fewer version updates. At the very least, there’s one mystery remaining to be resolve.

No matter how you look at it, 5 years of security patches puts Google on par with Samsung. Which is now the undisputed leader in Android upgrades, providing a full 4 years of security updates for consumer devices and up to 5 years for enterprise devices.

Ah, yeah, there is the allure of designing your own chip that runs in your own phone.
