Veena Malik’s recent controversial statement

Veena Malik, the diva of Bollywood, is often at the centre of controversy. As long as she continues to defy expectations, she will remain one of the most sought-after celebrities.

Amid a string of scandals including stolen videos and threats against her for engaging in illicit activities, the 37-year-old actress finds herself back in the spotlight as she speaks candidly about what kind of dress code should be maintained in the entertainment industry.

Malik expressed her views in a recent interview with DW Urdu, in which she stated that the government should establish a clothing code for celebrities as well as the general public.

The citizens of Pakistan are free to dress whichever they choose. Pakistan is an independent country.” In fact, I believe that there should be a clothing code in the entertainment industry. The government should institute a dress code that informs us of the boundaries that we are expected to adhere to.”

Upon being asked about the Taliban’s insistence that women dress a certain way, Veena responded, “The Taliban have established their government in Afghanistan, and whatever societal codes they wish to implement, I believe [the people of Afghanistan] will happily follow them because they are well-versed in their culture and traditions.”

Her eruptive outburst was met with a barrage of harsh criticism. She was subjected to an enormous amount of anger, and she enraged the public since her statement once again restricted the ability to choose one’s own clothes.

As previously reported, Malik has launched a defamation case against her ex-husband Asad Khattak, seeking Rs1 billion in damages for what she claims is the conduct of a “smear campaign” against her.
