NUST Racing Car Team 2nd In FSR 2021

Following its recent victory in Formula Student UK 2021, the Formula Electric Racing NUST (FERN) team has made an impact in Formula Student Russia 2021, where it finished second.

Despite competing against a large number of other teams from across the globe, the team finished in second place in the competition.

A team of National University of Science and Technology (NUST) students took home first place in every individual event, including the Engineering Design competition, the Business Plan Presentation competition, the Cost competition, and the Electric Vehicle category.

Students from NUST designed and built the formula electric vehicle from the ground up. The design of the vehicle was influenced by the open-wheeled, open-cockpit single-seater Formula racing car.

The Electric Vehicle (EV) features a battery with a capacity of 5 kWh and a range of 22 kilometres. When fully charged, it can reach speeds of up to 120 kph and accelerate from a standstill to 100 kph in as little as 4.5 seconds.

Recently, the Formula Student United Kingdom 2021 (FSUK21) competition included a competition in which the FERN team placed third in the Engineering Design category. Among a total of 65 teams from across the globe competing in the FSUK21, FERN finished in 18th place overall with a project vehicle powered entirely by electricity. It was the only team from Pakistan to enter a project car powered entirely by electricity.

The current podium result for the FERN team in such a renowned competition is yet another significant accomplishment, and it is a feather in the hat not just of the students and institutes who participated, but also of the whole nation.

The competition was conducted electronically, with the judges watching video footage of the car throughout the course of the competition.
