The series between Pakistan and New Zealand has been postponed because of concerns over security.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) issued a statement saying that the New Zealand Cricket notified the board that they had been alerted to a security alert and that they had unilaterally opted to postpone the series.
The hashtags #ShameOnBlackcaps and #PakistanIsSafe have risen to the top of the Twitter trending topics list. Even government officials took to social media to express their outrage, sadness, and disgust with the situation, accusing New Zealand of showing contempt to Pakistan by allowing the attack to go in place.
Following advice from the government, David White, the Chief Executive of the New Zealand Cricket Corporation, stated that it was not practicable to proceed with the tour.
” I appreciate that this will come as a disappointment to the PCB, who have been outstanding hosts, but player safety comes first, and we believe this is the only responsible option.”
