TikTok introduces security features for teens

TikTok can be used by people of all ages, although it appears to be more popular with a younger population. Until then, TikTok announced that to better protect younger users, it will introduces new security features designed to protect teens while using the app.
According to TikTok, one such security feature is that people between the ages of 16 and 17 have given the default “None” DM. That is, this option basically prevents users from getting DMs from anyone. Prior to that, and for others older, Friends has set by default. Which meant you could send and receive messages from people who follow and follow you.

TikTok will also introduce a soft curfew in its app, whereby children aged 13-15 will not receive push notifications. After 9pm while children aged 16-17 will not receive push notifications after 10pm. This doesn’t stop them from using the app. But the idea tends to make the app less intrusive if it doesn’t receive notifications.

With that in mind, Apple and Google already have some form of parental control for iOS and Android. So this is just an extra feature. According to TikTok’s Leading Secondary Security Policy, Tracy Elizabeth, “our priority is ensuring that TikTok teens have a safe and age-appropriate experience when creating and sharing on our platform.”
