Prime Minister Imran Khan’s testimony to OBL is indecent, says Fawad Chaudhry

Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said Prime Minister Imran Khan had “missed” when he described slain Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden as a martyr.

Chaudhry said that Pakistan views Osama bin Laden as an al-Qaida terrorist fighter and tool.

“Pakistan voted at the UN on the war on terror [against fighters], we are voters on the [UN] list declaring Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda terrorists,” he said.

“Pakistan has sacrificed the most in the fight against terrorism,” Chadhri added.

In his address to the National Assembly last June, the Prime Minister recalled how the Americans carried out the operation in Abbottabad and “killed Osama bin Laden – they killed him”.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmoud Qureshi was recently asked in an interview to comment on the Prime Minister’s statement in Parliament.

He said the comments were “out of context”.

“He [Prime Minister Imran Khan] has been taken out of context. And certain sections of the media let it go,” he added.

“Is he a martyr? Don’t you agree? Osama bin Laden?” asked Najafizada.

“I won’t do that,” replied Qureshi after a short pause.

When asked why the foreign minister was hesitant about the prime minister’s testimony to bin Laden, the information minister said that Qureshi may have left matters behind and wanted to move on.
