IHC retains Nawaz Sharif’s conviction in the Avenfield case

The high court in Islamabad (IHC) on Thursday resolved appeals submitted to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) former premier Nawaz Sharif on convictions of accountability courts relating to Al Azizia Steel Mills and Avenfield Apartment.

The decision reserved earlier this morning was issued by an IHC divisional panel comprising Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, after hearing NAB’s additional prosecutor, Jahanzeb Khan Bharwana, and Nawaz Sharif‘s Azam Nazir Tarrar and Makhdoom Hussain.

Nevertheless, the Supreme Court has granted the PML-N supreme right once he is back in Pakistan, as the Government of the PTI has permitted him to roam abroad for almost a year, to appeal anew.

The IHC court noted that the request had no alternative other than to deny it because the leader of the PML-N was absconding.

The Court has given Nawaz Sharif numerous notices to appear before him for the hearing of the charges filed by him.

The Court of Reports granted Nawaz Sharif, referring to Al-Azizia, in 2018, a seven-year term.
