Facebook Inc (FB.O) banned former US President Donald Trump on Friday until at least January 2023. Face announced changes in the way he would deal with world leaders who violated his website’s rules.

Facebook banned Trump account a day after the deadly Capitol Hill riots on the grounds that it had incited violence. The suspension will last at least two years from the initial lockdown date. It will not lift until the risks to public safety subside, Facebook said on Friday.

The new schedule denies Republican Trump becoming a big megaphone on social media ahead of the November 2022 congressional elections. However, it means he may be able to return to Facebook long before the next presidential election in late 2024.

“Given the gravity of the circumstances that led to Mr Trump’s suspension, we believe his actions constitute a grave violation of our rules that deserves the highest penalty imaginable in the new enforcement protocol,” Matters’ chief global officer said on Facebook. Nick Clegg in the mail.

Trump added, “The next time I go to the White House, there will be no more dinner with Mark Zuckerberg and his wife at his request.”

Facebook has announced that it will work with experts to decide when the public security risk has been reduced. So that Trump can recover on his platform. He said he would assess factors including cases of violence, restrictions on peaceful gatherings and other signs of unrest.

During his presidency, Trump relied on social media to bypass the media. He speak directly to his supporters, especially his Twitter account, which has also been shut down. Since then, the former president has made statements through his Save America Political Action Committee. He also tried to start a blog, but it short live.

Statement of White House on Account Ban

White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Facebook should make that decision. But doubted that much of Trump’s behavior would change in the next two years.

“We have learned a lot from President Trump, the former president, in recent years about his behavior and use of this platform,” Psaki said. “It’s unlikely that zebras will turn striped in the next 2 years.”

The company said it determined that a two-year suspension was a reasonable duration to ensure a safe time. After the January 6 riots and that it was a sufficient reprieve to prevent Trump and others from repeating abuses.

Facebook has come under fire from those who believe it should leave its practical approach to political speech. But has also been criticized by those, including Republicans and some free speech advocates, who view Trump’s ban as worrying censorship.

In a statement from his office, Trump criticized Facebook’s decision, calling it an insult to his voters. He claiming that the 2020 presidential election was rigged.

The Trump case is seen as a test of how the company reacts to the decisions and recommendations of the newly formed board of directors.

The board also recommended that Facebook reconsider its role in the electoral fraud conspiracy that led to the January 6 siege, which Facebook will meet in part through its partnership with academics investigating its role in the 2020 US election. Facebook says it is implementing 15 of the board’s 19 recommendations.
