FM Qureshi pays a visit to the shrine of Abdul Qadir Gilani in Baghdad

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmoud Qureshi visited Mazar-e-Ghous, the shrine of Islamic preacher Abdul Qadir Gilani in the Iraqi capital, where he also performs prayers on Fridays.

Mazar-e-Ghous is a complex dedicated to Sheikh Abdul Qadir Gilani (1078-1166), the founder of the Sufi Qadriya order. The shrine complex includes a mosque, tomb, and the Kadiriya Library, which has rare historic books from the subject of Islamic scholarship.

Shah Mahmoud Qureshi paid a three-day visit to Iraq at the invitation of his Iraqi counterpart, Fouad Hussein, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad. It will review cooperation between Pakistan and Iraq in multilateral organizations, including the United Nations and the Organization for Islamic Cooperation, the statement said.

Upon arrival, Shah Mahmoud Qureshi was greeted at Baghdad International Airport by Iraqi Deputy Foreign Minister Dr. Saleh Al-Tamimi, the Iraqi ambassador to Pakistan Hamid Lafta, Pakistan ambassador to Iraq Ahmed Amjad Ali, and senior foreign minister.
