Canada topped 1 million coronavirus cases nationwide and increased restrictions. With 2,000 new cases of Covid-19 announced in British Columbia on Saturday night, Canada has surpassed one million cases since the pandemic began, according to Canadian television operators.
So far, more than 23,000 people have died. Canada is grappling with a third wave of cases amid the rapid spread of more contagious options.
The two most populous provinces, Ontario and Quebec, are approaching Easter weekend and tightening public health measures. In Ontario, where Canada is home to more than a third of cases, restrictions have been tightened for at least four weeks.
Non-essential businesses have 25% capacity while others can accommodate 50% capacity. Sports facilities and hairdressers are closed, although schools remain open and residents are not told to stay at home.
